Church Camp

IF YOU HAVE A CHILD OR YOUTH WHO IS READY FOR CHURCH CAMP (see age requirements on the "Camp Schedule") ... Open the two attachments and print them out.

IF YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN ACTIVE AT RED TOP THIS YEAR ... MEANING that he/she has attended Sunday School, Worship or Youth Group at least ONCE/MONTH ... The Church's and Youth Group's Financial Assistance can help them significantly:
  • The church will pay 50% of the fee
  • Youth Funds will pay 25% of the fee.
The absolute deadline to get your applications to me/Bill; completed and including medical and insurance info and correct fee ...
will be APRIL 12TH at church/worship.  Any registration forms after that date will have to be mailed to the appropriate address by families.

In my opinion, and I was the Director of Rickman Conference Center for 10 years, working with kids and leaders ... One week of Church Camp is worth (at least) a year of Sunday School!

The Jesus Fatwah:  Coming to Thursday Nights following Easter!

Among the most frequently recurring topics from the national/international front are related to Islam. According to the website www.muslimpopulation.com there are 7.1 billion Muslims in the world.  53% in Africa, 32% in Asia, 7% in Europe and 2% in North America.  In other words, Islam is a world-presence that is not going away!  Many people have genuine concerns regarding Islamic Fundamentalism, I.S.I.S or the “Islamic State,” and other questions regarding Islam, in general.  I have to admit that I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about these subjects; especially from a faith perspective.  I encounter a wide range of points of view regarding these Islam-related topics.  The predominant points of view are quite negative … quite fearful.  What I do believe is that Islamic extremists do NOT represent the vast majority of Muslims!  However, when I seek to respond as one who is supposed to be faith-informed … I find my knowledge base severely lacking!  I suspect I am not the only Christian in Mid-Missouri who could benefit from learning more about Islam, the “Islamic State,” and other truths about this world religion.

After a careful search for balanced, responsible resources that address the above topics, I have come across a faith-based, video series from “Living the Faith” producers, who offer us knowledgeable, responsible insight from 17 Christian and Islamic scholars.  The series is entitled: “The Jesus Fatwah: Love your (Muslim) Neighbors as Yourself.”  Here is a brief description:

Much of what passes as information about Islam is weed-like disinformation rooted in stereotype and watered by fear. In The Jesus Fatwah, Islamic and Christian scholars offer reliable information about what Muslims believe, how they live out their faith, and how we all can be about building relationships across the lines of faith.

This six to eight week Bible Study, that I will be offered on Thursday Evenings, 6:30 -8 pm beginning April 9th.  We will meet in the Hawkins Sunday School Classroom.

TRANSFORMED--How God Changes Us by Rick Warren (The Purpose Driven Life)

LAST CALL to join the new study group, facilitated by Sue Jones, which is entitled "Transformed", and taught by Rick Warren, author of "The Purpose Driven Life", in a 7 session video series. We will meet once a month, beginning (and maybe continuing) in the home of Jack and Susan. First session will start March 18th @ 6 pm - refreshments will be provided.
